چکیده

HD 98800 is a 10 Myr, hierarchical quadruple with a signi cant dust component rst detected by IRAS. This dust is present in spite of the multiple stellar components [A-B, a visual pair with Sep =0.008, Aa+Ab, a single-lined spectroscopic binary with P = 262 d, and Bb+Ba, a double-lined spectroscopic binary with P = 315 d (Torres et al. 1995, ApJ, 452, 870)]. In order to study the relationship between the multiple components and the dust distribution, we have carried out a di raction-limited imaging study of this young multiple star system from 1 18.2 m with the W. M. Keck 10-m telescopes using near-IR speckle imaging with NIRC, adaptive optics imaging with K-CAM, and mid-IR imaging with OSCIR. This high spatial resolution work compliments that recently presented by Soderblom et al. (1998, ApJ, 498, 385), Gehrz et al. (1999, ApJ, 512, L55) and Low et al. (1999, ApJ, in press). The emission from HD 98800 is easily resolved between the two 0.008 components from 1 18.2 m (see Figures 1 and 2). Our measurements are the rst to resolve the system at multiple wavelengths through the silicate feature (see Figure 3).

A 10 - Myr - Old Transition Disk

We present the mid-infrared spectrum, obtained with the Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph (IRS), of HD 98800, a quadruple star system located in the 10-Myr-old TW Hydrae association. It has a known mid-infrared excess that arises from a circumbinary disk around the B components of the system. The IRS spectrum confirms that the disk around HD 98800 B displays no excess emission below about 5.5 μm, i...

0 Keck Diffraction - Limited Imaging of the Young Quadruple Star System HD 98800

This paper presents diffraction-limited 1−18µm images of the young quadruple star system HD 98800 obtained with the W. M. Keck 10-m telescopes using speckle and adaptive optics imaging at near-infrared wavelengths and direct imaging at mid-infrared wavelengths. The two components of the visual binary, A and B, both themselves spectroscopic binaries, were separable at all wavelengths, allowing u...

The Coronal X-ray spectrum of the multiple weak-lined T Tauri star system HD 98800

We present high-resolution X-ray spectra of the multiple (hierarchical quadruple) weak-lined T Tauri star system HD 98800, obtained with the High Energy Transmission Gratings Spectrograph (HETGS) aboard the Chandra X-ray Observatory (CXO). In the zeroth-order CXO/HETGS X-ray image, both principle binary components of HD 98800 (A and B, separation 0.8) are detected; component A was observed to f...

A Single Circumbinary Disk in the HD 98800 Quadruple System.

We present subarcsecond thermal infrared imaging of HD 98800, a young quadruple system composed of a pair of low-mass spectroscopic binaries separated by 0&farcs;8 (38 AU), each with a K-dwarf primary. Images at wavelengths ranging from 5 to 24.5 µm show unequivocally that the optically fainter binary, HD 98800B, is the sole source of a comparatively large infrared excess on which a silicate em...
